Monega Primary School

Art and Design at Monega

At Monega we follow the National Curriculum for all subjects. The curriculum contains the programmes of study and attainment targets for all subjects, at all key stages. All local authority-maintained schools in England must be teaching these programmes of study from September 2014.

Please see below for the details of the National Curriculum for Art and Design.

A key feature of art at Monega is the development of children’s’ drawing skills from mark-making in the early years to working from observation, memory and imagination.

Throughout their time at Monega, we will learn about the basic elements of art: colour, line, tone, shape, form, texture and pattern.  Children will have opportunities to work in both 2 and 3 dimensions to paint, sculpt, print and to explore the opportunities offered by digital imagery. They will also experience a range of crafts including weaving, felt-making.  We will explore working in and making sketchbooks.

The aesthetic, graphic, and functional aspects of design are taught in both cross-curricular and discrete projects at Monega as this subject  has strong links with Design & Technology.  We have specialist Art teacher provision, the opportunity to work alongside artists and visit museums and art galleries. We learn about artists, designers, craftspeople and architects. At Monega we recognise and value the importance of opportunities for personal creativity and expression that this subject allows.

Please follow the link below for more detailed information, directly from the DfE, regarding the National Curriculum and programmes of study for Keys stages 1 and 2 as well as additional information on each subject.
