At Monega we follow the National Curriculum for all subjects. The curriculum contains the programmes of study and attainment targets for all subjects, at all key stages. All local authority-maintained schools in England must be teaching these programmes of study from September 2014.
Please see below for the details of the National Curriculum for History and Geography.
Geography is taught through a topic-based approach following the new National Curriculum 2014. Ultimately, it concerns the pupils’ exploration of the diversity of people and places in their locality, the UK and the wider world. The learning experience is enhanced through creative activities, taking full advantage of opportunities for visitors’ input as well as off-site educational visits wherever possible.
History is taught through a cross-curricular topic-based approach following the guidelines of the new National Curriculum 2014. Pupils’ natural curiosity of the past is nurtured through exploration of specific historical eras. Pupils gain a knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past as well as that of the wider world. Opportunities are sought for visitors as well as off-site educational visits to enhance this experience.
