Red Nose Day!
Friday the 13th – turned out to be a lucky day!
Monega School Council decided it would be exciting and helpful if we as a school raised money for the Red Nose Day and all the charities it supports.
The School Council thought it would be fun to raise money by: dressing up funny, dressing up in red, painting their faces to look funny, sell cupcakes for 50p and red noses for £1.
The day arrives…
The playground looked like a ‘sea of red’. So many dressed up for the day and donated what they could afford. In class we did lots of investigations and activities. We also found out how the charities help people in need around the world. The money goes to help build schools and equip them, educate young children, to provide better homes and cleaner water supplies and much more.
To raise as much money as possible some classes baked cakes, Year 3, and sold them around the school. All pupils had the opportunity to buy cakes for 50p each. The School Council decorated all these cakes with a red nose picture made out of rice paper. They tasted really sugary as we ate them as well as sticking them on the cakes using icing to keep them on.
We learnt about a few people who lived across Africa and how the money has helped them. We found out facts so that the School Council could put on a performance in the form of an assembly to the rest of the school to inform them all about the history and the purpose of Red Nose Day.
We had a mind-blowing day raising lots of money and it totalled more than £1500 which is absolutely astonishing, amazing and extraordinary.
