The Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP Congratulates Monega Primary School Council
On Friday,26th June, the Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP (our local MP) was invited to our school to award our School Council for all their hard work, commitment and input in making improvements to the school and supporting their peers.
Firstly our School Council Leader, Mrs H, delivered a speech, to the whole school and to the parents of the School Councillors who were present as they had been invited to the school for the occasion, outlining all the hard work, major contributions and achievements of the School Council this year.
Shaking our hands to congratulate us, he gave us an individual certificate and we felt honoured to have the Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms presenting us with our certificates.
Once the presentation was over, the rest of the school apart from the Year 6 returned to their classrooms. The parents also stayed and took photos of us with The Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms – it was all very exciting!!
We also had the opportunity to ask him questions such as: Why did he become an MP? He responded by saying he always supported the Labour Part, even as a youngster and wanted to help people gain employment.
Some of the Year 6 asked for advice on how to become a politician; he responded telling them to communicate with people actively, make lots of friends and help the people around you and people will vote for you as you are listening to them.
He also believes the Labour Party helps people more and gives ordinary people more support than other parties.
It was a real pleasure for us to meet him again, having already met him on our visit to ‘The Houses of Parliament’.
